Reigning Premier Magpies | The Run Home

The second issue of “The Run Home”, our series looking at the end of the home and away season before the finals series kicks off.

Reigning Premier Magpies | The Run Home

Celebrating collaboration season and our AFL supporter gear, join us on The Run Home, our blog series to see out the footy finals. Make sure you're signed up to get weekly weekly updates on the 2024 AFL Premiership Season so far, straight from the mouth of a true footy fan. This time round, the 2023 Premier, The Magpies.

The Magpies are leaving their run for their 2023 premiership defence to the last minute.

What we’ve come to learn and expect from the Magpies, is that they love a close call. Never to be written off, Collingwood seemingly has mastered the art of a come-from-behind win and treating their faithful to nail biting finishes each week.

At the time of writing, the Mighty Magpies are sitting a game outside of the top 8, needing to correct their form slump and hope all the stars align for them to have a crack at defending their 2023 Grand Final triumph.

The next string of footy games will make or break their season.

In what could be seen as cruel by the masses of Magpie fans, or to be celebrated by the fans of all other 17 teams, Collingwood will be put to the test by arguably the three best, in-form sides of this season. Carlton, Sydney and Brisbane will each be looking to make life difficult for the Pies, and will have the AFL fixturing team patting themselves on the back at AFL House.

We’ve linked up with the big bosses, our Directors Paul and Ryan, who both are mad keen Collingwood fans.

How have you rated Collingwood’s performance this year?

Paul: If Lachie Sullivan didn’t give away that free kick, via mistake, and if we beat Essendon in that draw, which we should have murdered them, we’d be alright!

Ryan: Very much a year that has provided a lot of ups and downs along the journey. Considering how even the competition is and that we sit one game out of the top eight and two games off the top four, the two drawn games earlier in the year will come back to haunt the Pies in the run home. Definitely not the team of 2023, a lot of polish has come off but as I said the competition is soo close they really need to capitalize on the close games and need a little luck to fall thier way.

Do you think they’ll sneak into the 8?

Paul: I’ll say yes. We’ll beat Carlton, we’ll beat Brisbane, we’ll beat Sydney, so fair to say yeah. Whoever the other team is, we'll beat them.

Ryan: Tough run home, will need to win all the games to qualify and see a few results go our way... The door isn’t shut, slightly ajar but not confident.

Do you have a favourite piece or two from Drop 2?

Paul: Without a doubt. The Collingwood Box Fit Sweater, the fit on another level it’s grouse, the full embroidery, quality, customised Collingwood rubber stamps, genuinely love it.

Ryan: Favourite piece from Drop 2 is by far the Collingwood Varsity Jacket - killer piece, can’t wait to wear it Saturday while watching the Pies bowl over Carlton!

In case you missed it, last week I touched on Essendon in the first issue of 'The Run Home'. At the time of writing my hopes were high for a top 4 finish, how quickly has that aged…
